The BEST Park in Bellingham - Boulevard Park

by Tommy Mutchler

The best park in Bellingham

Ask just about anyone familiar with the area, Boulevard Park is one of the most famous and well-loved parks in Bellingham.

It’s one of my favorite parks and I often recommend it to anyone new to the area who is looking to experience the best of Bellingham. I actually brought my wife, who was new to the area, here for our 2nd date and she was so impressed she said yes to a third ;)

My wife and I walking the boardwalk

The waterfront park, just north of the Fairhaven District, overlooks the stunning Bellingham Bay and is a favorite among locals for the amazing sunsets (or sunrises if you’re an early riser!). We love to walk the park in the evenings right before dusk to witness the spectacular views of the sun descending on the islands.

The park features a long boardwalk over the water that connects you from Fairhaven to the beach. The popular trail is perfect for taking a stroll or walking your dog. The park also includes a bike path and trails that extend to downtown Bellingham.

The Taylor Dock is a quarter-mile boardwalk

The dock has a great view of the marina and in the summer it’s a great place to take a swim! Kids and teenagers alike will often jump off the docks during the hot summer days and the beach features a sandy area perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and making sand castles.

Just one of the many grassy areas to enjoy

The park includes a small playground for kids and lots of grassy areas to picnic, BBQ, or just relax in the cool breeze. You’ll often see college students lounging in hammocks or with books enjoying the area. During the weekends, local bands will also play on a performance stage.

My favorite local coffee shop

Woods coffee, a quintessential local Bellingham coffee shop, lies in the heart of the park. It’s a perfect place to grab a cup of coffee, a pastry, and relax.

Outdoor walk-up window makes it easy to order

The coffee shop has both indoor seating and an outdoor walk-up window you can order from. This is perfect if you have dogs or small children and don’t want to go inside. You can just grab your coffee and go!

Try the white chocolate & raspberry scone - it’s LIFE-CHANGING

Be aware, parking can be limited in the summer months, but it's available and cost-free. Public bathrooms are available at the center of the park.

Come see for yourself how amazing this local park is!
